The date that defines August: Festa Major de Gràcia (15–21 August)
If you can only catch one thing, make it this. For a week in mid-August the Gràcia neighbourhood turns its streets into competing, hand-built art installations — residents spend months on themed decorations, then vote for the best-dressed street. The big parade opens on the 15th and the closing correfoc fire-run rounds it off on the 21st. It's the single most photogenic week of the Barcelona summer, and it's free.
Summer nights that run through 31 August
- 'Nits Màgiques' at Casa Batlló — Gaudí's UNESCO-listed rooftop becomes an open-air stage for live music and a drink at sunset, running nightly until 31 August.
- Any Gaudí / 'Barcelona 2026 — World Capital of Architecture' — the year-long programme marking the Gaudí centenary, with exhibitions and events across the city all summer.
- Guitar BCN 2026 — the city's long-running guitar festival keeps rolling concerts through the season.
- Gran Teatre del Liceu — the 2025–26 opera season plays its final summer dates before the break.
Exhibitions worth a detour

The free civic-centre shows most visitors miss
Barcelona's centres cívics — the neighbourhood culture houses in Gràcia, Sagrada Família, Sarrià and beyond — run dozens of free exhibitions and summer workshops that never make the tourist guides: collective shows like 'Un barri ple d'artistes' (A neighbourhood full of artists), urban-sketching sessions around Gràcia, and rotating photography expos. They're the closest thing to seeing the city's art through a local's eyes, and they're all in the same feed as the big museums.
Street art doesn't keep opening hours
The walls of El Raval, the Gòtic and Poblenou are open at any hour, all summer — and in Barcelona they change fast, because the legal walls at Tres Xemeneies (Poble-sec) are repainted almost weekly. What comes next
